How to take screenshots on Chromebook?

Google launched their operating system for budget-friendly users, or you can say that they have targeted students. Google Chromebook is a popular laptop that designed to give the students the power to learn computer and use basic programs to learn.

Google Chromebook lacks power and features, but the companies have added their touch to the OS for performance. Few tweaks and improvements from companies end have increased the overall performance of the Chromebook.


Google Chromebook Can Take Screenshots?

Chromebook packed with several features that designed to help the students and basic users. One of the inbuilt features that Chromebook come with is screenshots. The Chromebook can take full-screen screenshots, and it can also take the specific areas screenshots as well. But, Chromebook did not give an option in the operating system, which is the strange part. However, you can access and enable it through keyboard shortcut keys.

We assume that you have the latest Chromebook OS installed on your laptop. Allow us to show you how you can enable and take a screenshot on your Chromebook. There’s only one way you can take screenshots on Chromebook (apparently it works with any version, so the shortcut keys remain the same despite the model and manufacturer) in just a few clicks.

How to take screenshots?

Step 1: You have to maximise the tab or window because once you have enabled screenshot; you cannot adjust the Windows or Tabs.

Step 2: You need to learn three shortcut keys that you need to know to use a screenshot.

First, Window Switch key.

Second, Shift key.

Third, CTRL or Control key.

Unfortunately, none of the regular external keyboards has Window Switch Key inbuilt on it, so you have to use Chromebook keyboard to take screenshots quickly.

Step 3: Now, you have to hold SHIFT + CTRL at first, then immediately click and hold on WINDOW SWITCH. The screen will grey out, and you can take the screenshot immediately.

Remember, you can exit the window by clicking “ESC” key.


If things did not work the way you have expected, then you can try it a little differently.

First, click and hold the SHIFT key, then click and hold CTRL key, then click Windows switch key. We have already mentioned that regular keyboard would not work with Chromebook shortcuts, so use the inbuilt laptop keyboard.

According to the DigitalTrends, you can use your regular keyboard function five key (F5) because it is equivalent to the Window Switch key. But, we do not find any evidence that it works smoothly, so you try with the default key.

How to Edit Screenshots?

You can quickly edit the screenshot using default editor that has basic editing features.

Step 1: Go to downloads, then click to open the screenshots.

Step 2: At the bottom of corner right, you can find “Edit mode” to view the editing tools.

Step 3: Another Window will open, and you can use Crop, Rotate, Brightness, Contrast, and more basic features avail to you.



Chromebook screenshot tool might be basic, but it is efficient, and it can take screenshots perfectly in high quality. You can download third-party tools to take screenshots, but they might not deliver the quality you are looking for it.
